Ein Elefant im siebten Himmel
Wir wissen nicht ob Elefanten in den Himmel kommen. Wir wissen nur, dass Citta den Himmel auf Erden hat. Vor allem, wenn ihr kleiner Zirkus im Sommer auf der Insel Föhr gastiert. Denn Citta badet für ihr Leben gern im Meer. Das hat sie von ihren Vorfahren von den Andamanen – Inseln. Die Nordsee ist zwar kälter als der Indische Ozean, aber der Sand ist zum Wälzen weich und warm. Danach dürfen die Insel-Kinder mithelfen, Salz und Sand abzuduschen und die dicke Haut zu schrubben. Dann trötet Citta vor Wonne und kann nicht genug kriegen. Die Kinder auch nicht.
Seit Citta als Baby aus einem Tierhändler-Käfig freigekauft wurde, ist sie mit dem Circus „Quaiser“ unterwegs. Kein Bettelzirkus, der auf halbverhungertem Pony die Mitleidsmasche reitet. Ein ganz normaler kleiner Familienzirkus mit ganz normalen, großen Existenzsorgen; sechs Erwachsene und fünf Kinder, süchtig nach Sägespänen und Manegenluft. Nie Urlaub, nie Feierabend und nirgends zu Hause – aber ein gelbblaues Zelt, ein geheiztes Winterquartier und Futter für die Tiere: Pferde, Kamele, Schlangen. Und Citta, 21 Jahre alt, 4 Tonnen schwer, der einzige Elefant der Welt – der in der Nordsee baden geht.
Und der einzige, der Post bekommt. „Fiele Grüse und ein bestimt lekeres Brot, eksra für dich getrocknet. Ich habe dich lieb ganz doll“, schreibt Petra aus Wyk auf Föhr. Die Sechsjährige freut sich wie alle Insel-Kinder darauf, dass Cittas Wagen endlich wieder von der Fähre rollt. Peer (12) freut sich auch. Peer wohnt im Behindertenheim, wo der Circus Quaiser einmal einen Benefiz-Auftritt gegeben hat. Seitdem hat Peer keine Vorstellung versäumt, darf umsonst hinein und lacht jedes Mal wieder Tränen, wenn Citta mit dem Rüssel den Clown zum Stolpern bringt. Lacht, wie nur Kinder in einem kleinen Zirkus lachen können. Und glaubt fest daran, dass Elefanten in den Himmel kommen.

Salt on thick skin
An elephant in seventh heaven
We don´t know if elephants go to heaven. We only know, that Citta has the heaven on earth. Mainly when her little circus is to guest at the island of Föhr. Because Citta loves for life to take a bath in the sea. This she learned from her ancestors from the Andamanen islands. The North Sea is admittedly colder than the Indian Ocean, but the sand is for rolling around soft and warm. Afterwards the children of the island are allowed to shower off salt and sand and to scrub the thick skin. Then Citta is hooting with joy and cannot have enough. So do the children.
Since Citta as a baby was bought free from an animal dealer-cage she is on tour with the circus “Quaiser”. Not a begging circus who is working on pity ploy with half starved ponies. Just a normal family circus with quite normal livelihood worries; six grown ups and five children longing for wood shavings and air of circus ring. Never holiday, never leave work for the day and nowhere at home – but a yellow blue tent, heated winter quarters and food for the animals: Horses, camels, snakes. And Citta, 21 years olf, 4 tons of weight, the only elephant in the world - who is taking a bath in the North Sea.
And the only one who is receiving mail. For example from Petra from Wyk at Föhr. The six year old is looking forward, like all the other island children, that Cittas car is finally rolling off the ferry. Peer (12) is also looking forward. Peer is living in the home for handicapped where the circus Quaiser once gave a benefit performance. Since than Peer did not miss even one performance, he is allowed to enter without payment, and is every time laughing tears, when Citta with her trunk trips the clown up. Laughs how only children in a little circus can laugh. And it’s sure, that elephants go to heaven.
